Fitlegs Compression Socks For Running (BY PENNY SHERWOOD)

You may have noticed that I love flashy compression socks. It’s time to road test some newbies from UK based brand, Fitlegs, and let you know what these compression socks can do for you.

Recently, Fitlegs asked me to try their compression socks for runners. Given that I find it hard to refuse a knee-high running sock, how could I say no?

I was running for several years before I pushed the boat out and treated myself to some compression socks. I wanted a pair for ages but I never thought I was running far enough or was a good enough runner to own a pair. Silly me! It actually doesn’t matter if you’re embarking on the Couch to 5k or are a seasoned ultra runner, compression socks definitely have a place as a regular part of any runners kit.

In fact, I wouldn’t be without mine and I’m impressed with Fitlegs latest offerings

I’ve now worn my Fitlegs compression socks several times. The first outing was on a 4-mile jaunt on the southwest coast path, and the second on a road run of a similar distance, and a few others just to make sure 😊

Fitlegs Compression Socks – How They Work

When it comes to running, I think compression socks look pretty cool. But that’s not the only reason to wear them. Fitlegs are clear on what they can do for runners, and why they should be part of every runner’s kit.

Compression Socks Improve Muscle Efficiency

Wearing compression socks when running is believed to help the effort our legs put into going the distance. This means that wearing a pair of Fitlegs compression socks is likely to help with muscle fatigue.

My first run in my Fitlegs along the southwest coast path was actually quite tough for me and my leg tired quite quickly. I’m gradually building up my running duration and stamina after a protracted period of injury, and I clearly have a bit of a way to go. Needless to say, I was thankful for my new Fitlegs socks. I don’t want to think about how tired my legs would’ve been without them.

Fitlegs Compression Means Better Circulation

According to some research, compression socks enables blood to circulate more efficiently through our legs and to our muscles. This improved blood flow energises our legs, and who doesn’t like the idea of that feeling?

Compression Socks and Recovery

With the blood pumping around the muscles efficiently, wearing some Fitlegs socks can aid recovery. Running with compression socks means legs are likely to be less tired and they won’t cramp as much. It’s also a good idea to wear after running so our legs can recover quickly. This is certainly something I’ve done in the past, especially when embarking on the latter weeks of marathon training.

It’s no surprise too that wearing compression socks when running reduces the chances of post-run swelling. I’ve seen my feet and legs after a marathon, and I’m happy to do what I can to make the hours and days following long-distance running as easy as possible.

I’ve already said how tough my coast path run was. I can honestly say that the next day, I wasn’t aching as much as expected. I was quite chuffed as I headed out the door again a few days later.

Fitlegs and Protection

With Fitlegs compression socks being knee-high, they’ll certainly keep my legs warm in winter. I’m definitely a runner who prefers shorts and skorts to tights (it has to be very cold!), so compression socks certainly help.

Also with the trails having considerable greenery, foliage and bugs, compressions sock protect our lower legs from scrapes and stings.

Have you tried Fitlegs compression socks for running yet? They come in 3 colourways – all black, each with a shot of colour. As new compression socks, I’m so impressed with how they look and feel. I can’t wait to wear them again on my coastal runs.
